John Calvin
John Calvin (1509-1564) was a French theologian and pastor who was a central figure in the development of the Protestant Reformation. He is best known for his Institutes of the Christian Religion, a comprehensive work on theology, and for his role in the development of the Presbyterian Church. Calvin's teachings emphasized predestination, the sovereignty of God, and the importance of individual interpretation of the Bible.
